What is Trezor Suite®?
Trezor Suite® is the official desktop and web application for managing Trezor hardware wallets. It enables you to create and restore wallets, send and receive cryptocurrencies, manage multiple accounts, and interact with supported coins and tokens while keeping private keys stored securely on the Trezor device. Trezor Suite acts as the user interface — cryptographic signing remains on-device.
Before you begin — what you’ll need
- A Trezor hardware wallet (Trezor Model T or Trezor One).
- A computer with an up-to-date web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) or the Trezor Suite desktop app.
- A USB cable (included) and USB port, or an appropriate adapter for newer laptops.
- A safe place to write and store your recovery seed (recommended: the included recovery card or a metal backup).
- An internet connection to download software and broadcast transactions.
Download Trezor Suite®
Go to the official Trezor website (trezor.io) and navigate to the Trezor Suite or Downloads section. Choose either the desktop version for Windows, macOS, or Linux, or use the web-based Suite if you prefer not to install software.
- Open a browser and type
trezor.io/start
or visittrezor.io
and follow links to Trezor Suite. - Select your device model (Model T or One) and the platform (Desktop or Web).
- Download the official installer for your OS or click the web app link to use Trezor Suite in your browser.
For added assurance, advanced users can verify checksums or signatures if Trezor publishes them. The primary safe practice is to download only from trezor.io
.
Install & open Trezor Suite
If you downloaded the desktop installer, run it and follow the installation prompts. If you use the web version, open the Suite in a supported browser. On first run you will be presented with options to create a new wallet or restore an existing one.
- Install the Suite (desktop) or open the web app in a secure browser window (preferably not in private/incognito mode for full functionality).
- On the welcome screen, choose Create new wallet or Recover wallet depending on whether you have an existing recovery seed.
- Follow on-screen instructions and connect your Trezor device when prompted.
Initialize your Trezor device (first-time setup)
Initialization happens on the device with guidance from Trezor Suite. For new devices, choose to create a new wallet; for returning users, choose to recover from a seed.
- Connect your Trezor to the computer with the USB cable and unlock it (follow device prompts).
- Choose Create a new device in Trezor Suite and confirm on the device when requested.
- The device will display a randomly generated recovery seed (typically 12, 18, or 24 words depending on the model and options). Write these words in order on the recovery card provided.
- Confirm the seed words on the device when prompted to ensure accuracy.
Never store the seed digitally. Do not photograph it or type it into any computer or cloud service. The seed is the only reliable backup of your funds — anyone with access to it can control your assets.
Understanding recovery seeds and backups
The recovery seed is a human-readable representation of the private key material for your wallet. Trezor uses industry-standard derivation (BIP39/BIP32/BIP44) to derive addresses from this seed. Protect it carefully:
- Write the seed on the supplied recovery card or a secure metal backup.
- Store backups in multiple secure locations (safe deposit box, fireproof safe) if appropriate for your holdings.
- Consider using a passphrase (optional advanced feature) for an extra layer of security — but understand it acts as an additional secret you must remember or store safely.
Adding accounts and managing currencies
Once your device is initialized and connected, Trezor Suite will let you add accounts for supported coins (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.). Each account corresponds to a set of addresses derived from your seed.
- Open Trezor Suite and navigate to Accounts or Add account.
- Select the cryptocurrency you want to add and follow prompts; some coins require installing coin-specific firmware or opening a specific app on the device (Model T).
- Trezor Suite will scan the blockchain for addresses and populate balances. Label accounts to keep them organized.
Trezor supports many coins and tokens. Check the official compatibility list for token support and connected third-party wallet integrations for advanced assets.
Receiving funds — verifying addresses
Always verify receiving addresses directly on your Trezor device before sharing them. This prevents malware from altering addresses displayed on your computer.
- In Trezor Suite pick the account and click Receive.
- Suite will display a receiving address; the device will show the same address. Confirm that the address shown in the Suite matches the one on the Trezor screen.
- Copy and paste the verified address into the sending service or exchange. Send a small test amount first if you are unsure.
Sending transactions — always confirm on-device
To send funds you build the transaction in Trezor Suite and sign it on the Trezor device. Always verify all transaction details (recipient address, amount, fees) on the device screen before approving.
- Click Send in the Suite, enter the recipient address and amount, and set the fee (if adjustable).
- Review the transaction summary in Suite, then confirm the full details on your Trezor device when prompted.
- Approve the transaction on the device to cryptographically sign and broadcast it to the network.
Best practice: Use a small test transaction before sending large amounts, and double-check the recipient address on the device to avoid mistakes or malware-based address substitution.
Security best practices
- Never enter your recovery seed into any computer or phone — only into the device during recovery if required and only when strictly necessary.
- Keep device firmware up to date via Trezor Suite official prompts; firmware updates patch vulnerabilities and add features.
- Use strong, unique PINs and consider using a passphrase for higher-value holdings or privacy needs.
- Store your recovery seed offline and consider using a metal backup for environmental resilience (fire, flood).
- Beware of phishing sites, fake support pages, and unsolicited emails. Always confirm you are on the official Trezor domain.
Troubleshooting and common issues
Device not recognized
If Trezor Suite does not detect your device, try these steps:
- Use a known data-capable USB cable and try a different USB port (avoid hubs where possible).
- Restart Trezor Suite and the computer; reconnect the device and ensure it displays the unlock screen.
- Ensure your OS and browser are up to date and that any required Trezor Bridge or drivers are properly installed if using the web version.
Firmware or update failures
Apply updates only through Trezor Suite. If an update fails, follow the official recovery steps provided by Trezor Support; do not attempt unofficial firmware flashes.
Advanced features and integrations
Trezor Suite supports integrations with third-party services for staking, DeFi, and token management via compatible wallets and bridges. Advanced users can:
- Use passphrases to create hidden wallets for privacy and extra security.
- Integrate with third-party wallets (e.g., Electrum, MyEtherWallet) for features not natively supported in Suite.
- Participate in coin-specific operations (staking, delegations) through supported integrations; always understand the smart contract risks and permissions involved.
Recovering a wallet on a new device
If your device is lost or damaged, you can restore your wallet on a replacement Trezor or compatible hardware/software wallet using your recovery seed:
- Obtain a new Trezor device and open Trezor Suite (or use a compatible recovery tool).
- Select Recover wallet and follow on-device prompts to enter the seed words in order.
- After restoring, reinstall required coin apps and add accounts to synchronize balances and history.
If you used a passphrase during the original setup, you must supply the same passphrase during recovery to access those funds.
FAQ
Does Trezor Suite store private keys?
No. Private keys remain on the Trezor hardware device and do not leave the device. Trezor Suite only constructs transactions and facilitates interaction with the blockchain.
What if I lose my seed?
Without the recovery seed, you cannot restore access to your wallets. This is why secure offline backups are essential. If you lose both device and seed, funds are irretrievable.
Is Trezor Suite open source?
Trezor publishes many of its tools and components as open source. Check Trezor’s official GitHub repositories for code, documentation, and community resources.
